While at Fort Myer I took up oil painting to have some art to hang on our walls. Over the years I've taken photographs wherever I went and I draw on them for inspiration and technical details for my paintings. I plan to present my paintings, photographs and pencil sketches here as time permits. To me, art is about something evanescent, something fleeting that you want to capture, to show or share, something you feel, some longing or striving or happiness or triumph or thrill or exhilaration or some fear or grief or sadness.

Art is about the desire to save and share something such as the brilliant colors of the petals of a flower shimmering in the sun as it moves in the breeze or the iridescent colors of a hummingbird or the grace and freedom of birds in flight, of horses in motion or the strength and grace of a person at rest or in motion.

For portraiture and figurative art I prefer to try to capture my subjects doing something other than posing for the camera so maybe I can show their intentions, emotions or attitudes.
