These are moments I will treasure forever. He was a world champion judoka but he was an even better person. We hope the next generation will watch his videos and feel our respect for him and be inspired to achieve great things too.

The Craig Fallon Cup has gathered momentum quickly and has been supported incredibly well by everyone, especially our elite judoka who take part or help out however they can. He was a dynamic force in the category, winning medal after medal with panache, power and incredible skill. However, in he made the unbearable decision to end his life, at only 36, and the judo family lost an icon of the sport.

On behalf of the IJF, I send my condolences to Craig's family and friends and offer our support at this terrible and testing time. At the pinnacle of his career winning the World Championships in Cairohe was in my eyes one of the true greats of British Judo.

Your coach and friend, Fitz. Our heartfelt sympathies are with his family during this difficult time. The medals kept coming for the Wolverhampton-based judoka, and he won silver medals at both the European and World Championships in An craig fallon biography shoulder at the Worlds probably cost him a gold medal. He did, however, win the prestigious Tournoi de Paris that year, and became the first British male since its launch in to win a title.

No elite athlete makes it by accident. Darcel, himself an Olympian and a world and European medalist, spoke warmly and candidly about some of the things that Fitz and Craig did so well. Fitz was always open to bringing people in to work with Craig. I was more the person to talk to. Fitz was always happy to both guide and accept the changing relationship with Craig and with all his athletes.

Allowing students to grow up and to make mistakes and to also flourish is imperative, but having the security of the personal coach right behind them is just so important. It is understood that no-one can put an exact finger on the single reason Craig chose to end his life. Finding even small ways to improve provision in each of these areas can only be a positive and Fitz, Winston and Darcel agreed whole-heartedly with regard to these subjects.

He was a big star with world and European gold! To not have that calibre of athlete involved makes no sense. To not keep the benefits of that investment within is mad. Look at Karina and Craig and so many others. Just washed away.
