He acquired a degree in advertising psychology from the Braunschweig University of Technology. Inhe and his former wife Karin entered a design contest and won first prize in three categories. He then went to work as illustrator and freelance designer for several fashion houses in Italy, France and the United Kingdom. He also became a professor at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin.
